Help! I don't have time!
Hi Blogger!
I hear it all the time.
I don't have time to work ON my business.
I don't have time …
- to work on the book that I've been thinking about for years,
- or the course that I know would make a huge impact,
- or that new clinic program that I am just dying to create.
I don't have time.
Now, this might feel a little challenging, but I want to encourage you to replace the words, "I don't have time," with "It's not a priority."
Start with the little things that are no big deal.
"I don't have time to re-lace my shoelaces. Relacing my shoelaces is not a priority."
Go ahead. Try it.
I'll wait.
How does it feel? Not too bad?
But when it comes to the bigger projects… you may feel a little more friction.
It may not sit as well to say, "I have this book idea that I know is amazing and it is NOT a priority."
And the discomfort that you feel is the point of the exercise.
Changing your language reminds you that you DO have a choice.
You CAN choose how to spend your time.
You're not a victim of your business.
So what priority will you choose today?
Something meaningful or something mundane?

Why Can’t I Explain What I Do? [Step #1: Inside!]

You know that feeling when you're in the barn or in the arena working with a horse and you just drop into an effortless state of flow…
- you feel so confident and sure of yourself
- words and insights just naturally flow out of you
- it's such a satisfying feeling
But then, you step out of your comfort zone.
- And sit down in front of a computer to work on your website.
- Or write a post to share your epic day.
- Or return a call to a potential client and try to convey what it is that you uniquely do, hoping they "get" you.
"Sigh"
And it feels – weird and awkward and overwhelming and even confusing.
Why is it so hard to explain the magic? All that confidence just goes right out the window.
I understand and I want to make it easier for you.
I want people to learn about the amazing things that you do with horses and the people who love them!
So here's my tip. Writing is not about getting it right or finishing anything or saying it perfectly.
In those moments when you're inspired, jot something, ANYTHING, down.
Give yourself some "breadcrumbs" to follow next time you work ON your business. I'm talking half ideas, descriptive words, and messy thoughts.
You can't edit a blank page.

One completely overlooked step is guaranteed to get you more clients!

Want to know the secret to creating an overflowing stable of clients that are eager, committed, and place high value on everything you have to offer them?
The way the industry has been going about it is completely wrong!
Seriously??? For real.
Most horse pros think they have to be seen being successful at shows…
OR
Plaster flyers at the local feed and tack stores…
OR
Build a website telling the world how much experience, skill, and accolades they have collected over the years…
But honestly, if this worked you would have more business than you could handle and would be working exclusively with the clients that bring you joy every time you see them.
Instead you're taking every client that walks through the door to help pay the bills… just like everyone else.
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Pros throughout our industry are making themselves crazy by trying to do the same thing as everyone else. It doesn't doesn't work well, and they can't find their way clear of it.
I see your struggle.
But the thing is, we live in the digital age practicing a craft that was developed in the iron age or even earlier. The days are long, the work is demanding, and it's always been easier to communicate with horses than with people. Right?
You see, most of your colleagues are doing what their mentors did, who did what their mentors did and so on, and so on… And most likely so are you because no one ever told you there's a better way, or because marketing is a four letter word, or because it's scary to try to sell yourself.
Here is why you're stuck…
Because it's not about "selling yourself" or showing off your skills at every show, or even having that website that's the equivalent of putting up a flyer at the feed store.
And this idea that marketing is "icky" and manipulative is so far from the truth.

Once you understand this, you start to see that you are not "selling" yourself or your services. You are letting your ideal client feel seen and heard and painting a picture of what outcomes are possible by working with you. There is nothing "icky" about helping someone feel validated and hopeful.
And that shift is the number one thought reversal that makes you stand out from every other pro out there trying to convince would be clients how great they are by showing off their skills or boasting about their mentors or accomplishments.
You see, once your potential clients can see the unique ways that you can help them, and that you really get them and their horse, then they will be eager to engage in a service based relationship with you.
By dialing in to who they are and what they need from you, you'll be able to attract your ideal clients, tell them exactly how they will benefit from working with you, and feel confident that you can completely stand out from the competition so that you are the clear choice for your dream clients.
Because it's about trust, and respect, and when prospective clients see themselves in your marketing material, they don't feel sold to. They feel validated and acknowledged and the recognize that YOU have the solution to their problems.
