Wow!
You're the kind of tired that hurts in your bones, but another day is done and you managed to do ALL the things.
And, you did it ALL BY YOURSELF! 👏 👏 👏
Because if you want it done right, that's the way it has to be.
Right?
When I was a professional trainer, trimmer, and bodyworker, I too did ALL the things, ALL BY MYSELF.
Toddlers get a cookie for doing things ALL BY MYSELF. But as an adult, what do you get?
I got great results with my horses! 💫
The satisfaction of happy clients! 🥰
Membership to the Smug Perfectionists' Club where I could pat myself on the back for setting a grueling schedule and getting ALL the things done. 🙌
…and I was making less than $5 an hour doing it, when I did the math. YIKES!
No one was giving me brownie points for going it alone. No special prizes either… unless you consider "broke and burned out" an award or a badge of honor!
The only adult prizes for going it alone are periods of burnout, increasing health issues resulting from chronic stress, constant anxiety about your financial future, missed vacations and lost opportunities, loneliness, and maybe even ruined relationships because of the demands of constantly hustling to do it
All. By. Myself.
But you don't have to. Going it alone is not your only choice.
What stops you from seeking support?
Is fear of judgment holding you back?
For a long time, that was it for me.
I played small for far too long "should-ing" all over myself:
- I SHOULD be able to run my business without help.
- I SHOULD "want it" enough to keep grinding away with no plan for improvement (let alone retirement eventually!)
- I SHOULD be embarrassed to admit that I wasn't even making $5 an hour.
- I SHOULD be able to get ahead if I just worked a little harder.
Sharing with my fellow local horse pros just felt TOO vulnerable (after all, they probably had it all figured out! How else did they buy that new blingy saddle?!?).
I was sure I was the only one running an unsustainable horse business.
And I sure as hell didn't want to admit it.
But I knew if I didn't make a change, I was really going to burn out for good.
So I put on my big girl panties and ventured outside the horse industry for business coaching help. My coaches knew nothing about horses, but I was able to apply some of the business principles I was learning to my business.
And it worked! My business improved. I had more time, more money, and could mentally "breathe" again.
I didn't feel chronically exhausted. I was excited about the future of my business again!
But there was STILL something missing.
That gaping chasm between the "business" world and the horse world.... I feel like an outsider in both worlds.
I wanted to be around other horse pros like me.
Ambitious. Courageous. Driven. Smart. NOT satisfied accepting the status quo!
The Red Mares of the equestrian world.
I knew with a community of powerhouse horse pros we could change our businesses, our lives, and the entire horse industry for the better!
I love this African Proverb:
"If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together."
Ask yourself: If I go it alone, what will my business look like in 5 years... 10 years? 20?
